Co-founder and Director, Associação Portuguesa das Doenças Priónicas

Dr. Ângela Da Silva Correia is a molecular neuroscientist specializing in the biology of prion proteins and the mechanisms of neurodegenerative proteinopathies.

She holds degrees in Biology (University of Porto), Molecular and Cellular Biology (University of Aveiro), and Molecular Medicine (University Medical Center Göttingen), and is currently a postdoctoral researcher at the German National Reference Center for Transmissible Spongiform Encephalopathies

Recognizing a critical gap in patient support, advocacy, and public awareness in Portugal, she co-founded the Associação Portuguesa das Doenças Priónicas (APDP), where she serves as Director. Under her leadership, the association provides information, emotional support, and advocacy for patients and families affected by prion diseases in Portugal.

By bridging science and society, she advances research while ensuring that discoveries translate into better support and awareness for those impacted by neurodegenerative disease.
