Dr. Carola Muñoz-Montesino

University of Concepción

Carola Muñoz-Montesino earned her degree in Biology from the University of Concepción, Chile, where she also completed her Ph.D. in Biological Sciences. She did her postdoc research at INRAe in Jouy-en-Josas, France, focused on conversion mechanism in prion diseases.

Currently, Dr. Muñoz-Montesino is based at the University of Concepción, where she established the molecular neuropathology lab with the aim of improving the diagnosis of neurodegenerative diseases, specially focused on genetic cases of Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease in Chile.

She also contributes to the field as a scientific advisor to the Fundación de Enfermedades Neurodegenerativas (FEN) Foundation in Chile and is actively involved in bioethics related to neurodegenerative disorders. Additionally, she is a member of the ethical, bioethical and biosafety of University de Concepción and the Chilean Neuroscience Society.
