Professor Beata Sikorska MD PhD

Beata Sikorska, MD, PhD, is a neuropathologist and pathologist with long-standing expertise in diagnostic neuropathology, particularly in neurodegenerative and prion diseases. She is currently Professor and Head of the Department of Molecular Pathology and Neuropathology at the Medical University of Lodz in Lodz, Poland. The Department has long served as Poland’s reference centre for prion diseases, a role established and developed by Paweł P. Liberski.

For more than two decades, her diagnostic and research work has focused on human prion diseases. Her professional experience includes research training at the National CJD Research & Surveillance Unit, University of Edinburgh, as well as long-standing collaboration with the Institute of Neurology, Medical University of Vienna.

Her academic output includes more than 140 scientific publications and 35 book chapters. In addition to her scientific and diagnostic work, she is involved in medical education and in promoting better understanding of prion diseases and neurodegenerative disorders. She aims to contribute to better recognition and understanding of rare neurodegenerative diseases, and to support clear and meaningful communication between specialists, patients, families and clinicians.
